Who is Claudia Tenney?

  • 1961 born in New Harford, NY; parents Cynthia and John R. Tenney, New York State Supreme Court Justice, one of five siblings 
  • 1983 B.A. Colgate University 
  • 1987 J.D. University of Cincinnati
  • Co-owner of a commercial printing and manufacturing company in Sherburne, NY, started by her grandfather
  • 2001 co-hosted a weekly radio and television program in Oneida and Herkimer NY counties

Tenney on Fox

  • 2002 legal counsel and chief of staff for New York State Assemblyman David R. Townsend Jr. 
  • 2010 co-hosted a program in Utica, NY, on a conservative talk radio station
  • 2010 first elected to the New York State Assembly in an unopposed election, replacing David Townsend and becoming the first woman to represent the district
    • 115th district (2011–2013)
    • 101st district (2013–2017)
    • 2012 “most conservative legislator” by the NYS Conservative Party
    • served on the House Financial Services Committee
    • cast doubt on the scientific consensus on climate change, saying, “The science is not determined. It’s not certain.”
  • 2016 elected to the United States House of Representatives NY22 (2017-19)
    • 44% vs 39% for Democrat candidate Kim Myers vs 13% for Independent/Reform Party candidate Martin Babinec 
  • 2018 The Hill wrote that Tenney was “embracing President Trump’s confrontational style.”

    • signed a letter calling for criminal investigations into many former Obama administration officials and high-ranking Justice Department officials
    • following the Parkland, FL school shooting said, “It’s interesting that so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats . . .”
    • on CNN, she said Democrats who refrained from clapping during the State of the Union address were “un-American.”

Tenney with Trump

  • 2018 defeated for re-election by Democrat Anthony Brindisi
    • endorsed by President Trump, who campaigned in the district
    • the most pro-Trump congressional district in the nation flipped by a Democrat in 2018.
  • 2020 re-elected to the House of Representatives NY22 (2021-23), defeating incumbent Democrat Anthony Brindisi by 109 votes
  • 2021 election denier. Said on CNN, “No one knows about what happened in the election…We don’t know if it was stolen or not…I don’t know, the President doesn’t know.
  • 2022, faces Mario Fratto in the Republican primary
  • 2022 re-districting splits NY22 
  • 2022 forced to delete tweet mocking Paul Pelosi attack…retweeted a photoshopped image of a group of men holding hammers in front of what some claim is the home of Pelosi-attacker David DePape…” remarkably cruel tweet laughing at the brutal beating of her colleague’s husband.

  • 2024 faces Mario Fratto in the Republican primary (again), endorsed by Trump (again)
  • 2024 defeated Mario Fratto in the Republican primary by a bigger margin than in the first meeting.  She discloses the use of recording devices in her talks with Fratto.
  • 2024 faces Democratic nominee David Wagenhauser in the general election for NY24 seat
